the falling (a love story)
he feels she likes him
she feels he likes her
past iambic convos
their arms brush electric
as armrest fades to clouds
this must be love astir
floating from their bosoms
flutterbies of light
and all
the light
to breathe
to breathe
the falling is quite lovely
even as their flight
surrenders to the kisses
of thirty thousand feet
of braided gravity waves
to find love and longing
from the deep embraces of
an endless lyrical sea
and all
the waves
to weave
to weave

Notes:
The iambic portions of the poem “falling” are inspired by the lyrics written by Roma Ryan for The Humming song, which was released in 2015 as the first track of the Enya music album Dark Sky Island:
Wow!
thirty thousand feet of braided gravity waves 🙂 so visually, descriptive. You have a wonderful way with your words.
Thank you, Tamaya. ‘So glad that it elicited a Wow! from you 🙂
was that my first WoW? sorry I should have written it in the comments hehaha
I have thought it often
Thanks again, Tamaya 😄 Have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
That was very pretty.
Thank you 😊
Beautiful images here. Nicely done.
Thank you, Mike. I was just reading your “Learning to See” post earlier, I sure do hope this poem gives justice to the sensitivity (or is it sensibility?) of what Ursula Le Guin refers to as “the raw nerve of the universe” 🙂
A beautiful piece, Said. A monumental love story, I hope the moon does not come into the picture and make a love triangle. The romantic sea’s embrace reminded me of a Portuguese song, roughly, “It’s sweet to die in the sea.” We are definitely in the realms of fantasy.
Thanks, Steve. In this age of shrinking airline seats, fantasy is definitely a safe refuge when one is feeling so boxed in, especially on long-haul flights 😀
Right on, Said. I used to take massive fantasy books, until I decided they were too much for my hand luggage.
