the significance of being black or white
black, some people believe,
is the murder of colors
and white, their liberation
while others claim black is
the acceptance of colors
and white, their rejection
but neither black nor white
can tell the whole truth
about the world of colors.
where lies the significance
of being black or white is neither
in the presence nor in the absence
and neither in the absorbed nor
in the reflected, but rather
in the equity that transforms
and plays the colors like harp strings
with the full range of justice of even
the most extreme measures.

Beautifully expressed, Said. Equity and justice can be hard to come by in our world. Here’s hoping for a symphony.
Thanks, Steve. I like that a symphony of colors would actually indicate shades of failure of the zero-sum games of a “black or white” world 🙂 But I will always be a fan of the Spy vs. Spy comic strips of Mad magazine, impressing in my early years the safety of a neutral zone 😀
I remember a cartoon, don’t know from where. A general is pointing at a map and saying, “Bomb the green bits first.” Has anything changed, I wonder.
He, he … well, it’s always been either one color or another 🤕
Really great post. Loving it beyond words. I can say this is one of my favourites among all you’ve post
Thank you for the appreciation, Nkeng. ‘So glad that this post resonates with you 😊
As I read this then look back at the title, my thoughts wander to the tai chi symbol, where there is spinning and swirling, in perpetuity. Like a broken clock is right only twice a day, so too does the tai chi hit total black or white only once per revolution. Thank you for inspiring these thoughts.
You’re welcome, Ms Jade. I don’t know about the tai chi symbol rotations, but I can imagine I’d quickly get dizzy staring at something spinning and swirling, especially with sharply contrasting patterns 🙂
Excellent poem! And so relevant in these cruel times.
Thank you, Katy!
