a mother’s whisper

the sad letters of empty pages
sit with me and my daily wages,
mother whispers from miles of hue:

back home my son they look for you
on window sills where hang the stars
that pluck the notes from your guitar,
are you this coffee memory
across the table, across the sea?
the frogs and turtles have come to pass
to sing the chorus of the grass,
to drown in rain of lines unwritten
to wait for you pick up the pen,
to write your blank letters on sad edges
to read with me the sky’s pages

I shall be away from blogging for at least a month, to drown in rain of lines unwritten, to sit on pages of algorithms. Until then, here’s wishing you good health and starry nights.

Your verse reminds of a children’s poem, “On the Day You Were Born.” Bon voyage. See you on the flipside.

    • Thank you, Ms. Jade. I am not exactly going on a voyage, just getting very busy meeting some deadlines, earning my daily wages. Which can be quite harrowing, some days I could easily lose appetite. So maybe a better wish would be ‘Bon appétit’ ?! 🙂

  2. A truly beautiful piece, Said, and very personal for me. In my youth I gave little thought to my mother, what she was feeling when I basically walked out one Christmas; when I left for South America, contacting her so rarely. I regret it now. I have an extensive list of regrets.

I am trying to mix all my activities together and failing miserably, as well as getting stressed. Your solution is a good one, hope to see you back on WordPress, and meanwhile I hope you also get to spend some time with the stars, Said.✨

    • Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your mother, Steve. I have fond memories of my mother collecting her magazines of DC and Marvel comics and organizing them into hard-bound books that we children could leaf through on idle weekends, encouraging us always to read or write one thing or another. My only regret is that I could not be beside her during her last days on earth, the only one among a brood of ten siblings who missed out on the most tender moments with her! 🙁

On a side note, a minor regret is that I could not save all those comics from the fire that ravaged our place in 1974 — those vintage comic books would have been worth a fortune by now, haha… I needed that laugh 😀 Just taking a breather from work for now, really. See you around.
