the seeds

the world is shrinking as we shake
from all the swelling and the aches
the hours are shorter, distances near
for all the borders we hold dear,
and as the world shrinks and squeezes us in
its membranes wrapped over our skins
we grasp for the haka of souls and spirits
to break through the sheaths, to let us breathe.

  3. Eloquently expressed, Said, the feeling of suffocation. I am still reeling from this nightmarish tragedy, it hangs like a dark cloud over the future.

    • Thank you, Steve. Indeed. For me, it does not help that dark, gray clouds have remained over Jeddah most mornings for about 6 months now. Some days, it would rain, usually lightly, but sometimes, heavily, flooding some streets. For such a long time, it used to be only dry season around here, with at most less than a half day of rain in a year. Jeddah now has a wet season since Sept. last year, with the dry season probably just starting to set in. Sullen days, but hopefully, a time for seeding as well.

      • My pleasure, Said. Remaining hopeful is not easy but is preferable to giving to the opposite. I read that we had the hottest March on record here in Australia.
