About the Author
Liza Zaldarriaga Sadain, who adopted the Muslim name “Alia” after embracing Islam, is from the Philippines. She lived in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia for almost 35 years, was a full-time housewife and a mother to four children. During her years in Jeddah, she attended three Qur’ān schools completing the tajwīd courses.
Many Muslims in numerous parts of the world know very little Arabic and are in need of books to assist them learn the religion and to recite the Qur’ān. For the past six years, with Allāh’s guidance and help, Alia has devoted much time and great effort to organizing and producing a comprehensive tajwīd manual in three volumes, designed to teach beginners up through and including the advanced rulings for recitation of the Arabic Qur’ān.
She modestly wrote: “When I turned 40 years old, 15 years after converting to Islam, I decided to take the complete three-level course in tajwīd to learn how to read the Arabic Qur’ān, alḥamdulillāh. After another 15 years, I felt an obligation to share what I learned from my schools and from books by devising the Illustrated Tajwīd Made Easy (ITME) manual over 6 long years. I am not a writer, a techie, a teacher, a born Muslim, or a native English and Arabic speaker; I am but a full-time housewife with a university degree B.S. in Architecture.”
We ask Allāh, the Exalted, to accept all her efforts and her diligent work for His cause. In shā Allāh this manual will prove to be a valued assistance to both students and teachers of tajwīd.
